7 April 2006Most of you have probably been wondering what's happened to PONZ (Psychosocial Oncology New Zealand) formerly known as POIGNZ (Psychosocial Oncology Interest Group of New Zealand). A new PONZ Committee was elected at the Annual General Meeting held at the Christchurch Conference in August 2005. The elected Committee members are:

A compilation of all those who have attended past conferences/meetings since POIGNZ's inception has been done and, as agreed at the 2005 AGM, the Committee has set the membership fee of $45:00 for members and $25:00 for Affiliate/Associate members (non-health professionals, family/whanau and those who may have/have not had a cancer). The Committee would now like to invite you to apply for membership. I attach an Application for Membership form to this email for you to complete and forward, with payment, to me at the address supplied below. NB Membership fees need to be received by 1 June 2006. The PONZ website is up and running and is in the process of being updated. Those who are interested can connect to www.poignz.org.nz or www.ponz.org.nz. As we make the transition from POIGNZ to PONZ, the initial website address will eventually be phased out. A request – the Committee wonders if there is anyone out there who would be prepared to maintain and update the website – at the moment we have a six month contract with an organisation, after that………? Also, we would welcome any suggestions/inspirations about the website. Please contact me at the below address. Also well underway is the organisation of the next PONZ Conference (by Waikato/Bay of Plenty Division, Cancer Society of New Zealand) set for 10/11 November 2006, to be held in Hamilton. The Conference theme for this year is “New Beginnings”. Abstracts are currently being sought and those interested can contact Diana Bowen at admin.cancersociety@org.nz . Conference details and registration forms will be distributed in April. In addition, of possible interest to some, is the International Psychosocial Oncology Society’s (IPOS) Congress being held in Venice, 16 to 21 October 2006. For further information contact info@ipos-society.org. Lastly, the Committee is seeking creative enthusiasts to develop a PONZ logo, and is offering free registration to the 2006 Conference to the successful submitter. Submissions can be forwarded to me. If you know of anyone who might be interested in becoming a member of PONZ, they should make enquiries to me.
